Cabin overheats, Biman’s Ctg flight makes emergency landing
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight bound for Chattogram was forced to make an emergency landing just 21 minutes after take-off due to a mechanical fault that caused a sharp rise in cabin temperature.
Flight BG 615, a Bombardier Dash 8-400, was scheduled to depart for Chattogram at 2:34pm, took off on time from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday, August11.
However, shortly after take-off, passengers and crew reported an unusually high temperature inside the cabin.
According to Biman sources, the sudden increase in heat prompted the flight crew to assess the situation, and a decision was made to return to Dhaka for safety reasons. The aircraft landed safely back at Shahjalal Airport at 2:55pm.
Speaking to the media, ABM Rowshan Kabir, General Manager of the Public Relations Department at Biman Bangladesh Airlines, confirmed the incident: “The Chattogram-bound flight returned to Dhaka due to a mechanical issue. The safety of passengers and crew is our top priority. We are making arrangements to re-accommodate all passengers on the next available flight.”
Passengers reported discomfort during the flight due to the rising heat but praised the crew for maintaining calm and providing updates throughout the incident.
This incident follows another technical disruption involving Biman just a day earlier. On Sunday, August 10, Flight BG 356, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, from Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport to Dhaka was cancelled due to a technical fault.
The aircraft remains grounded in Rome as engineers conduct inspections and repairs.
These consecutive technical issues have raised concerns about fleet maintenance and operational reliability, prompting calls for a review of aircraft servicing protocols.
Biman has assured passengers that all necessary measures are being taken to minimise disruptions and ensure safety across its operations.
