Festive mood as DUCSU nomination deadline ends today
Today (Monday) is the last day to purchase nomination forms for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections. Since morning, a festive atmosphere has prevailed at the DUCSU nomination form distribution centre and hall offices.
Visits to the university’s Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building and various residential halls revealed large crowds of candidates collecting forms. Although the forms had been available for seven days, the turnout appeared highest on the final day. Many students were also seen submitting their completed forms.

This year, around seven to eight panels along with numerous independent candidates are expected to contest the polls. Panels from Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir, Chhatra Sangsad, the Left Alliance, and several independent groups are preparing to take part. However, none of the major panels had officially collected forms as of Monday morning.
Activists of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir were seen gathering near the Senate Building, preparing to collect forms and announce their panel shortly. Candidates from Chhatra Dal, Gonotantrik Chhatra Sangsad, and the Left Alliance are also expected to arrive later in the day.

Speaking to reporters, Dhaka University student Muhaiminul Islam said: “After a long time, the DUCSU election is being held. The festive mood surrounding it gives us hope. We expect that the rest of the process will also be conducted properly.”
