Journalist Bibhuranjan goes missing; GD filed
Senior journalist and columnist Bibhuranjan Sarkar has been missing since Thursday, his family said, and they have filed a general diary (GD) at Ramna Police Station in the capital.
Bibhuranjan works at Daily Ajker Patrika and writes regular columns for several media outlets, including Jagonews24.com.
Speaking to Jago News, his son Rito Sarkar said that his father left their home in Siddheshwari, Dhaka, for his office around 10:00 am on Thursday but accidentally left his mobile phone at home. Later, when they contacted his office, they were informed that he had not arrived there either. Since then, his whereabouts have remained unknown. They filed a GD at the police station around 10:00 pm the same day.
Ramna Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Faruq confirmed the matter, saying that efforts are underway to trace the missing journalist. Sub-Inspector Arup Talukdar, the investigating officer of the GD, added that the police have circulated the missing person report through wireless messages to all police stations across the country and are making every effort to locate him.
Born in 1954, Bibhuranjan Sarkar began his journalism career during his school years in the late 1960s, working as a correspondent for Dainik Azad. He completed his higher education in the Department of Bangla at Dhaka University. Over the years, he worked with several national dailies and weeklies. He also served as editor of Dainik Matribhoomi and Weekly Chaltipatra, and as executive editor of Weekly Mridubhashan.
During the anti-Ershad movement in the 1980s, his political articles published in Weekly Jaijaidin under the pseudonym “Tarikh Ibrahim” gained wide popularity among readers.
