A Pran Dairy hub in-charge was attacked for refusing to accept adulterated milk in Gunaigachha Union, Chatmohar Upazila, Pabna, on Friday (August 22).

Sirajul Islam, in-charge of Pran Dairy Hub-1, was injured in the attack and admitted to Chatmohar Upazila Health Complex.

Following the incident, a case was filed at Chatmohar Police Station on Sunday night (August 24). The case was lodged by Shariful Islam, Central Protection Officer of the Central Protection Department at Pran-RFL Group, the parent organization of the dairy. The complaint names two milk suppliers and several unidentified individuals as accused.

The accused are Abul Kalam Azad, 48, son of the late Khorshed Molla from Bhabanipur in Bhangura Upazila, Pabna, and another Abul Kalam Azad, 50, son of the late Dhoni Ullah from Bhangura Bazar in the same upazila. Both used to supply milk to the dairy.

According to the complaint, the accused regularly supplied cow’s milk to the hub, but the milk was found to contain various chemicals and was rejected by Sirajul Islam. Angered by this, they threatened him. On Friday, after finishing work, Sirajul was returning home on his motorcycle around 11:00 pm when he was attacked on the Chatmohar-Baghbari highway near the centre. The accused reportedly beat him severely with iron rods, wooden sticks, and bamboo sticks.

Sharif Uddin Torofdar, Deputy General Manager of Pran Dairy Hub-1 in Chatmohar, said, “Milk supplied by the second accused was found adulterated about two weeks ago, and the milk of the first accused, Abul Kalam Azad, was rejected on the day of the incident. Their supplier codes were canceled. These incidents led to the attack on our in-charge. A case has been filed with the police, and we demand the swift arrest and punishment of the perpetrators.”

Chatmohar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Manjurul Alam said, “A case has been filed. Efforts to arrest those involved and other related actions are ongoing.”
