Justice Akhtaruzzaman resigns amid graft probe
High Court Division Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman has stepped down amid investigation into allegations of irregularities against him.
He submitted his resignation letter to the Chief Justice, Syed Refaat Ahmed, on Sunday, August 31, and the CJ sent it to the President.
Earlier, the Supreme Judicial Council had summoned Justice Akhtaruzzaman and asked him to give explanation over the allegations.
On March 23 this year, the President directed a full probe into the allegations.
On October 16 last year, the government sent 12 justices, including Akhtaruzzaman, on compulsory leave after allegations of committing corruption and acting as Awami League government's collaborators were raised against them.
After the allegations, the Supreme Judicial Council led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed launched an investigation against them.
