102 detained in Dhaka over attack on policeman

At least 102 people have been detained by joint forces in connection with the attack on police member Al Amin in Adabor, Dhaka.

Assistant Police Commissioner (AC) of the Mohammadpur Zone, AKM Mehedi Hasan, confirmed the information on Tuesday (September 2), saying that several of those detained are directly involved in the incident, while verification and investigation are ongoing. Joint operations are continuing in various parts of Adabor, and further details will be released later.

Earlier, on Monday night, patrol police from Adabor Police Station were dispatched to the Sunibir Housing area after receiving reports of clashes between two groups through the national emergency service 999. During an attempt to control the volatile situation between rival teenage gang members, police member Al Amin was attacked with a sharp weapon and injured. He sustained injuries to his hand and other parts of his body and was admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. Al Amin, a driver at the police station, had arrived in the area driving a pickup carrying other police personnel.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Tejgaon Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Ibne Mizan, said that after receiving the 999 call about the clashes, police went to the Adabor area with a vehicle. Al Amin was near the vehicle when he was attacked by members of one group. He was taken to the hospital, and efforts are underway to identify the attackers and the group responsible.
