Umama Fatema, the Vice President candidate of the Independent Student Unity Panel in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, said they want the election to be conducted fairly and neutrally. “So far, we are not moving forward with any negative mindset. We are not in a position to reject the results. Rather, we want the election to be completed properly and the results to reflect that,” she said.

She made the remarks on Tuesday (September 9) around 10:30 am in front of the Udayan School & College polling centre while speaking with journalists.

Umama Fatema added that they are receiving a positive response from voters and that students are casting their votes enthusiastically. “I am optimistic about winning,” she said.

When asked by reporters which hall she expects to get the most votes from, she did not give a clear answer, saying the data has not yet been finalised.

Commenting on the current voting situation, she said it was proceeding smoothly, with students coming out to cast their votes. “We hope the voting continues in this orderly manner,” she added.

According to the Election Commission, voting is being held across 810 booths at eight centres of the university from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Tuesday. Students standing in line at the polling centres by 4:00 pm will also be allowed to vote.

In connection with the DUCSU election, all entry points of the university will remain closed to the public for 34 continuous hours, from 8:00 pm on Monday until 6:00 am on Wednesday.
