PIB teams up with Online Editors Alliance in joint training initiative
The Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) and the Online Editors Alliance have announced a collaborative training initiative designed to equip journalists with advanced skills in digital and online journalism.
The partnership was formalised during a high-level meeting held on Monday at PIB’s headquarters in Dhaka, attended by PIB Director General Faruq Wasif and senior leaders of the Online Editors Alliance.
The meeting saw the participation of Alliance President Hasan Sharif, Vice President KM Ziaul Haque, General Secretary Mizanur Rahman Sohel, Joint General Secretary MAHM Kabir Ahmed, Finance Secretary Moin Bokul, and Office Secretary Mashud Bin Abdur Razzak.
Key topics of discussion included the responsible integration of artificial intelligence in newsrooms, strategies to enhance fact-checking capabilities in the fight against misinformation, and the urgent need for journalists to master emerging technology-driven tools and platforms.
Addressing the gathering, PIB Director General Faruq Wasif confirmed that the inaugural training programme for Alliance members will commence next month. He also extended an invitation to the Alliance to co-develop and co-deliver training modules aimed at nurturing the next generation of digital media professionals.
“The future of journalism lies in its ability to adapt, ethically and skillfully, to digital transformation,” said Wasif. “This partnership is not just about training; it’s about building a sustainable ecosystem for credible, tech-savvy journalism in Bangladesh.”
The Online Editors Alliance confirmed that the programme will be jointly facilitated by seasoned PIB trainers and senior editors from its own network, ensuring a blend of institutional expertise and real-world digital newsroom experience.
The initiative marks a significant step toward professionalising Bangladesh’s rapidly expanding digital media landscape, where demand for accurate, responsible and innovative journalism continues to grow.
