Eight people, including five firefighters, were burnt in a fire at a chemical warehouse in Gazipur's Tongi on Monday, September 22.

The fire broke out at the chemical warehouse beside Sahara Super Market around 3:30pm.

Being informed, five units from Tongi Fire Service and Civil Defence went to the spot and brought the fire under control around 6:00pm.

Five fire extinguisher and three workers suffered burn injuries when they were trying to douse the blaze, said Tongi Fire Service official Mohammad Shahin Alam.

Of the injured, six were first taken to Tongi Government Hospital and later, they were rushed to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery as their condition deteriorated, he said.
