AL activists hurl eggs at Akhter Hossen in New York
Awami League activists hurled eggs at Akhter Hossen, member secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and a member of the delegation led by Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.
The incident occurred at Terminal 8 of the airport around 1:00 am Bangladesh time on Tuesday (September 23).
An Emirates flight carrying the Chief Adviser and his entourage landed at the airport. After some delay in exiting, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP acting chairman’s foreign affairs adviser Humayun Kabir, NCP leader Akhter Hossen, and NCP senior joint member secretary Tasnim Jara came under slogans from Awami League activists.

Security personnel from the Chief Adviser’s press wing, along with several BNP activists, attempted to escort them out safely. At that point, several Awami League and Juba League activists hurled eggs at Akhter Hossen and shouted obscene remarks at Tasnim Jara. In protest, Akhter chanted, “Inquilab Zindabad.” Later, with police assistance, the delegation members left the airport by car.
Since morning (New York time), leaders and activists of the US unit of the Awami League had been staging demonstrations at the airport, chanting anti-Yunus slogans in protest against the Chief Adviser’s visit.
