Tongi fire: Another firefighter succumbs to injuries

Another firefighter who suffered burn injuries while trying to douse a fire at a chemical warehouse in Gazipur's Tongi has passed away in a hospital in Dhaka.

The fire extinguisher, Nurul Huda, worked at Tongi Fire Service and hailed from Mymensingh's Gafargaon.

Nurul Huda died around 2:40pm on Wednesday, September 24, at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, Talha Bin Jashim, media cell officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence, told Jago News.

Around 100 per cent of his body was burnt in the fire, according to the hospital sources.

Earlier on Tuesday, September 23, firefighter Shamim Ahmed, who was also injured in the fire, passed away at the hospital.

On Monday, September 22, the fire erupted at a chemical warehouse beside Sahara Super Market in Gazipur's Tongi.

Four fire service personnel and three workers sustained burn injuries while trying to douse the blaze.

Of the injured, six were first taken to Tongi Government Hospital and later, they were rushed to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital as their condition deteriorated.
