The latest figures were released in a regular dengue update issued on Sunday by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room under the DGHS.

Of the four fatalities reported since Saturday, two occurred in Dhaka North City Corporation and two in Dhaka South City Corporation.

The newly hospitalised patients are distributed across divisions as follows: 164 in Dhaka division, 97 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 112 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 166 in Barisal division, 91 in Chittagong division, 101 in Khulna division, 37 in Mymensingh division, 54 in Rajshahi division, 17 in Rangpur division, and 6 in Sylhet division.

Meanwhile, 658 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours. To date, a total of 43,629 dengue patients have been released after treatment in 2024.

Cumulatively, from 1 January to 28 September, Bangladesh has recorded 46,051 confirmed dengue cases.

For context, the country reported 11,214 infections and 575 deaths in all of 2024 up to this point last year. In 2023, Bangladesh experienced its worst dengue outbreak on record, with 321,179 hospitalisations and 1,705 fatalities.

Health authorities continue to urge the public to eliminate stagnant water sources and take preventive measures against Aedes mosquito bites, as the monsoon season extends the risk of transmission well into the autumn months.
