Yunus condemns global silence on Gaza, voices solidarity with Shahidul
Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has condemned international inaction on Gaza and affirming Bangladesh’s full support for photographer and human rights activist Shahidul Alam, who is currently aboard a humanitarian flotilla attempting to break the siege on the besieged enclave.
“We are closely monitoring the status and safety of those participating in this historic humanitarian mission, especially our fellow citizen Shahidul Alam,” Chief Adviser Yunus said in a statement on Saturday night.
“Shahidul has undertaken this journey with the same courage, moral clarity, and unwavering commitment to justice that defined his 107-day imprisonment in 2018—when he was detained for speaking truth to power under the previous government. Today, he stands as a symbol of Bangladesh’s enduring conscience and its solidarity with the oppressed.”
Recalling his address to the United Nations General Assembly last month, Yunus iterated his condemnation of global inaction in the face of escalating atrocities in Gaza. “The indifference to human pain is destroying the progress humanity has built through decades of struggle,” he said.
“Nowhere is this tragedy more visible than in Gaza—where children are dying of starvation, civilians are being killed without distinction, and entire communities, including hospitals and schools, are being erased from existence.”
The Chief Adviser affirmed Bangladesh’s unwavering stance: “We stand with Shahidul Alam. We stand with Gaza. And we will continue to stand for humanity—now and forever.”
