Around 500 bhori gold stolen from jewellery shop, owner claims
Around 500 bhoris of gold ornaments were stolen from a jewellery shop inside Fortune Shopping Mall in Malibagh, Dhaka, early Thursday, the shop owners claimed.
Police and local sources said the theft took place at Shompa Jewelers inside the mall around 3:00 am. CCTV footage showed two burglars, disguised in burqas, cutting the shutter lock and stealing a large amount of gold.
The shop owner, Achinta Kumar Biswas, told Jago News, “Around 400 bhoris of gold jewelry were displayed in the store, in addition to approximately 100 bhoris kept as mortgaged gold. There was also around Tk 40,000 in cash. The gang took everything.”

He added, “As usual, I closed the store at 9:00 pm on Wednesday and went home. The next morning, I learned about the incident from the market’s security guard and found my shop completely empty.”
Biswas said he would take legal action regarding the incident.
Earlier, on Sunday (October 5), a jewellery shop in Jatrabari was also burgled, where criminals cut through a wall and stole nearly 125 bhoris of gold jewelry along with around Tk 275,000 in cash. A case was filed at Jatrabari Police Station on Tuesday (October 7), and police are reviewing CCTV footage and conducting operations to identify those involved.
