Nationwide typhoid vaccination kicks off for first time
For the first time in the country, a nationwide typhoid vaccination campaign has been launched. Nearly five crore children aged 9 months to under 15 years will receive free injectable typhoid vaccines.
As part of the expanded programme, the campaign was inaugurated at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in the capital. Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant on the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Prof. Dr. Md Sayedur Rahman, officially launched the campaign on Sunday (October 12) at 9:30 am.
In his speech as the chief guest, Sayedur Rahman said that the typhoid vaccination programme is one of the largest in the world. “Bangladesh has become part of this success, which is a matter of pride for us,” he added.

He urged students to not only get vaccinated themselves but also encourage others to do so. “From next year, this vaccine may not be available for free through government programmes. However, this does not mean it will be unavailable; it can still be taken privately,” he noted.
Sayedur Rahman further highlighted that the typhoid vaccine is the result of nearly 100 years of research. “After such a long period of work, we now have an effective vaccine, which is a remarkable achievement for humanity. I hope all of you will responsibly take the vaccine and raise awareness among others,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of developing thoughtful and research-oriented individuals for the future. “Many of you will become doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs, or administrators. Beyond that, we need thoughtful people and researchers, because the future world will be entirely technology-driven. Start preparing yourselves today with knowledge, research skills, and a sense of humanitarian responsibility,” he added.
