Final copy of July Charter sent to 33 parties, alliances
The National Consensus Commission has sent the final copy of the July National Charter to political parties. The information was disclosed in a message to the media on Tuesday (October 14) night.
According to a letter signed by the Commission’s Vice-Chairman, Ali Riaz, the final copy of the charter was delivered to 33 political parties and alliances on Tuesday evening.
Sources said the Commission finalised the 84-point July National Charter with full consensus among political parties and alliances on 17 issues of state reform. On the remaining 67 issues, some parties expressed opposition and submitted notes of dissent. The charter does not outline implementation measures for the proposed reforms. The Commission will later provide recommendations to the government and political parties in this regard.
Following the assumption of office by Professor Muhammad Yunus’s interim government, several reform commissions were formed to bring changes across different sectors of the state. In two phases, a total of 11 reform commissions were established. The Consensus Commission, however, engaged political parties in discussions only on the proposals of the six commissions formed in the first phase—Constitution, Electoral System, Public Administration, Anti-Corruption Commission, Police, and Judiciary Reform. Agreements and decisions from those discussions were compiled into the July National Charter.
