Metro rail operating hours extended by one hour
The operating hours of Dhaka’s popular public transport, the metro rail, have been extended by one hour. The new schedule came into effect on Sunday (October 19), with the first train departing at 6:30 am. Both the morning start and evening closing times of the metro rail have been extended by half an hour. Passengers have expressed satisfaction with the change.
The first train left Uttara North Metro Station for Motijheel at 6:30 am, instead of the previous 7:10 am. In the evening, the last train from Motijheel will depart at 10:10 pm. On Fridays, the metro rail will now start at 2:30 pm, instead of the earlier 3:00 pm.
Over 400,000 passengers travel daily on the Uttara–Motijheel route. Passengers have also requested an increase in the number of trips. The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) said trial runs are underway, and if everything goes as planned, additional trips could be introduced by mid-November.
Earlier, on Wednesday (October 15), DMTCL, the authority responsible for the metro rail’s construction and operation, announced the plan to extend operating hours. Sources said the decision to extend both the operating hours and the number of trips was made in September.
