The Bangladesh Navy has rescued 15 fishermen who had been adrift on a fishing trawler in the Bay of Bengal for four days after an engine breakdown.

During regular patrol activities on Tuesday, March 31, the navy personnel noticed a trawler adrift around six nautical miles west of Lighthouse of Saint Martin's Island and immediately recovered the vehicle along with the fishermen, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a press release on Wednesday, April 1.

Rescued fishers said they lost direction and had been adrift in the deep sea after the trawler's engine failed on March 27. At one stage, food and pure water ran out, causing severe suffering to them.

The fishermen have been given primary treatment, and they are now well and safe, ISPR said.
