Army officers in custody taken to ICT amid tight security

Fifteen serving military officers, who were in the custody of the Bangladesh Army, were taken to the International Crimes Tribunal on Wednesday in connection with three separate cases of crimes against humanity.

The accused were brought to the tribunal premises shortly after 7:00 am amid tight security.

A total of 32 people, including 25 former and current military officers, are accused in the cases. Of them, 15 military officers remain in military custody.

The officers were transported in a green prison van and were all dressed in plain clothes.

Of the three cases, two relate to crimes against humanity committed through enforced disappearances and torture during the previous Awami League government’s regime. The third case concerns crimes against humanity that occurred in the Rampura and Banasree areas of Dhaka during the July mass uprising.
