No concern over Nov 13 for fixing Hasina’s verdict date: Prosecutor
The date for fixing the verdict in the crimes against humanity case against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has been set for November 13.
Regarding the fixation of the verdict date, Prosecutor Gazi Mohammad Monowar Hossain Tamim said there is no concern or anxiety over political statements, the lockdown announced by the Awami League, or gatherings related to the day.
Speaking to reporters in front of the International Crimes Tribunal on Sunday (November 9), Gazi M.H. Tamim said, “Whatever happens in politics, there is no concern regarding the date for fixing Sheikh Hasina’s verdict. Moreover, the verdict will not be announced on that day. The tribunal will only set the date for announcing the verdict.”
He further explained, “The judges fix the date for delivering the verdict in court. As you know, in previous International Crimes Tribunal cases, after the completion of trial proceedings, cases used to remain as CAV (Curia Advisari Vult, a Latin legal term meaning the verdict could be delivered at any time). In Sheikh Hasina’s case, the tribunal has now set a specific date to determine when the verdict will be delivered. Some people, without understanding the tribunal’s rules and terms, have commented in public or in political speeches that the verdict will be announced on that day. We clarified the matter today.”
