An arson attack has been reported at the Grameen Bank in Bijoynagar, Brahmanbaria, where petrol was allegedly poured and set ablaze early Wednesday. The fire destroyed furniture and important documents, but the bank’s cash vault remained unharmed. The perpetrators have not yet been identified.

Md Kalim Uddin, manager of the Chandura branch, said that around 2:00 am, petrol was poured from outside and ignited. The night guard noticed the fire and informed them. With the help of local residents, the fire was partially controlled before the fire service arrived and extinguished it completely. He added that a written complaint would be submitted to the police.

Wasi Azad, in-charge of the Bijoynagar Fire Service, said that upon receiving the news, they rushed to the scene. By the time they arrived, the fire was largely under control. He confirmed that the fire caused damage to documents and furniture, but no cash was lost. Both the locals and the night guard reported that the fire appeared to have been set intentionally, though the matter is under investigation.

Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bijoynagar Police Station, confirmed that police visited the site after receiving the news. No witnesses saw who set the fire, and the investigation is ongoing.
