5 more die from dengue as cases surge nationwide
Five additional deaths from dengue fever have been recorded across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, taking the national death toll for 2025 to 331, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
A further 792 people were hospitalised during the same period, bringing the total number of confirmed dengue cases this year to 83,858.
The figures were released in the DGHS’s daily update, issued on Saturday by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room.
Of the newly hospitalised patients, the highest numbers were reported in Dhaka North City Corporation (226), Dhaka South City Corporation (121), and Chittagong Division (136). Other affected areas include Barisal Division (125), Mymensingh Division (60), Dhaka Division (108), Khulna Division (15), and Sylhet Division (2).
All five recent fatalities occurred in Dhaka North City Corporation.
Meanwhile, 783 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries this year to 80,243.
By comparison, Bangladesh recorded 101,214 dengue cases and 575 deaths in 2024. The previous year, 2023, saw the country’s worst outbreak on record, with 321,179 infections and 1,705 fatalities.
Public health officials continue to urge the public to take preventive measures, including eliminating stagnant water sources where Aedes mosquitoes breed, using mosquito repellent, and seeking early medical attention for fever symptoms.
The DGHS has intensified vector control operations in high-risk areas and is monitoring the situation closely as the monsoon season extends into November.
