Masked gunmen storm shop, kill Juba Dal leader, shoot auto driver while fleeing
In a shocking display of targeted murder and indiscriminate violence, masked and helmeted gunmen stormed into a hardware shop in Mirpur’s Pallabi area and shot dead Golam Kibria, 47, the member secretary of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal’s Pallabi thana unit, on Monday evening.
The attack took place around 6:40pm at C Block, Section-12, Mirpur, when three armed assailants entered the shop and opened fire at point-blank range.
Gunmen shoot auto driver while escaping
As they fled the scene on a motorcycle, the attackers also shot Arif Hossain, 18, a battery-run autorickshaw driver, leaving him critically injured.
Arif is now undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) emergency unit.
Passerby Mohammad Piarul, who rushed Arif to the hospital, said: “After killing Golam Kibria, the gunmen shot Arif as they tried to escape. We found him lying on the road and brought him to DMCH.”
Quoting Arif, he added: “Two helmeted youths got into Arif’s rickshaw, pointed pistols at his waist and ordered him to drive fast. When he couldn’t move quickly, they shot him in the back.”
DMCH Police Camp in-charge Inspector Md Faruk confirmed the incident, saying Arif had a bullet wound to the back and was receiving emergency treatment.
A 10-second execution caught on CCTV
Terrifying CCTV footage that surfaced after the attack shows three masked and helmeted men walking into the shop with chilling precision.
Kibria tried to shield himself with a chair, but the gunmen fired multiple rounds at close range.
Other people inside the shop looked on helplessly as the killers finished the job and fled within just 10 seconds.
Earlier, Pallabi Police Station officials confirmed that Kibria had been rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
No arrests have been reported as of filing this report.
