Russian corvette Gremyashchiy arrives in Chittagong on goodwill visit
The Russian Navy’s corvette Gremyashchiy arrived at Chittagong Port on Monday, November 17, for a five-day goodwill visit to Bangladesh, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced in a press release.
Upon arrival, the ship’s officers and sailors were received by the Chief Staff Officer on behalf of the Commander of the Chittagong Naval Region. A well-equipped Bangladesh Navy band performed a traditional welcome ceremony. The Russian Military Attaché in Bangladesh and senior naval officials were also present to greet the vessel.
Earlier, as the Russian ship entered Bangladeshi waters, Bangladesh Navy Ship BNS Omar Farooq extended a formal maritime welcome.
During the visit, the captain of the Gremyashchiy and the Russian Military Attaché are scheduled to pay courtesy calls on the Commander of the Chittagong Naval Area, Commander BN Fleet, Superintendent of the Dockyard, and the Chairman of the Chittagong Port Authority.
Officers and sailors from the visiting ship will lay a wreath at Redkin Point at the Bangladesh Naval Academy and tour naval vessels, bases, the BN Ashar Alo School for children with special needs, and several cultural, scenic and historical sites in Chittagong. Members of the Bangladesh Navy will also visit the Russian vessel.
The ISPR noted that the visit will allow the navies of both countries to exchange professional knowledge, experience and skills, strengthening practical cooperation and mutual understanding.
Russian Navy ships have undertaken similar goodwill visits to Bangladesh in the past.
The ISPR added that the ongoing visit is expected to further deepen bilateral ties, promote professional exchanges, and enhance future training and collaboration between the naval forces of the two nations.
The Gremyashchiy is scheduled to depart Bangladesh on November 21.
