Car plunges off Ctg elevated expressway, 1 killed, 4 fighting for life
A tragic scene unfolded in Chattogram on Thursday afternoon when a speeding car skidded off the city’s elevated expressway and crashed onto the road below – killing one pedestrian and leaving four others critically injured.
The shocking accident occurred around 4:25 pm near the Bandar Police Station at Nimtala intersection. According to eyewitnesses, the car was racing across the Shahid Wasim Akram Flyover at high speed before it smashed through the expressway railing and plunged to the ground.
Pedestrian Md Shafiq, 55, was rushed to Agrabad Mother and Child Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Four others – including a young woman – were taken to Islami Bank Hospital in serious condition.
Fire Service officials said the car – Toyota Harrier SUV – was headed toward Agrabad from the airport when the driver lost control at the Nimtala point. Rescue crews pulled three badly injured victims from the wreckage.
“A huge crowd gathered after the car fell,” said Mahmudur Rahman, Assistant Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police’s Port Zone. “There was a heavy traffic jam, but we managed to clear the road and restore normal movement.”
Authorities are investigating what caused the deadly loss of control – but early accounts point to reckless speed on the elevated expressway.
