Earthquake: 3 killed in building railing collapse in Old Dhaka

Three pedestrians were killed when the railing of a five-story building collapsed during an earthquake in Koshaituli, Bangshal, Old Dhaka, on Friday morning. The police have not yet identified the victims.

Locals said the railing suddenly gave way while the pedestrians were walking along the road, killing them on the spot. Fire service and police personnel rushed to the scene immediately after the incident.

Ashish, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Bangshal Police Station, confirmed the deaths, saying three pedestrians were killed when the building railing collapsed during the earthquake. He added that police personnel remain present at the site.

The earthquake shook the capital, Dhaka, along with several other parts of the country at 10:38 am. Rubaiyat Kabir, acting officer at the Earthquake Monitoring Centre of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, told Jago News that the earthquake measured 5.7 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was in Madhabdi, Narsingdi, about 13 kilometers from Dhaka, and the earthquake was of moderate intensity.
