Not Baipail, Saturday’s earthquake epicentre also traced to Narsingdi

The Earthquake Observation and Research Centre of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has clarified that Saturday’s tremor did not originate in Baipail, Savar, as initially reported. Instead, the epicentre was located in Palash upazila of Narsingdi.

The correction came through an official notice signed by Nizam Uddin Ahmed, a professional assistant at the centre, issued around 4:00pm on Saturday, November 22.

The quake was recorded at 10:36:12am with a magnitude of 3.3 on the Richter scale. According to the latest assessment, its epicentre was in Palash – 29 kilometres northeast of the Earthquake Observation and Research Centre in Dhaka.

The update follows Friday’s catastrophic earthquake, also centred in Narsingdi, which was the most devastating in the country’s history. At least 10 people were killed and hundreds were injured nationwide in the aftermath of that quake.
