Panic erupted in the capital’s Mohakhali area on Saturday evening as a moving bus belonging to Baisakhi Paribahan burst into flames in front of the Department of Disaster Management.

The fire broke out at approximately 9:15pm, prompting an immediate response from city authorities. Two fire-fighting units were dispatched to the scene and are currently working to bring the blaze under control.

According to Md Shahjahan, Duty Officer at the Fire Service Control Room, the incident occurred while the bus was in motion along the busy Mohakhali thoroughfare. “A fire broke out in a Baisakhi Paribahan bus in front of the Department of Disaster Management. Two units are on site responding to the emergency,” he confirmed.

As of now, officials have not released details regarding the cause of the fire or whether any passengers or crew members were injured. “We do not have confirmed information about casualties or the origin of the fire at this stage,” Shahjahan added.

Traffic in the area has been severely disrupted, with commuters forced to seek alternate routes during peak morning hours. Authorities have cordoned off the scene as investigations continue.

This incident has once again raised concerns about vehicle safety standards and emergency preparedness in Dhaka’s public transport sector.
