A massive fire has broken out in the Karail slum in the capital, but firefighting efforts are being delayed due to severe traffic congestion.

The Fire Service and Civil Defence received the alarm at 5:22 pm on Tuesday (November 25). However, as of 5:50 pm, none of the 11 dispatched fire units managed to reach the site, confirmed Rashed Bin Khalid, Duty Officer of the Fire Service Central Control Room.

“All 11 units are on the way, but they are stuck in traffic,” he said.

No immediate information was available regarding the cause of the fire, possible casualties, or the extent of the damage.

Karail, located beside the Mohakhali commercial hub and close to Gulshan and Banani, is one of Dhaka’s largest and most densely populated slums.

Further updates are awaited as emergency responders attempt to reach the scene and bring the fire under control.
