Gazette issued for lottery-based reshuffle of 64 SPs
A reshuffle of Superintendents of Police (SPs) in all 64 districts has been carried out through a lottery to assign duties for the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
A gazette notification, signed by Md Mahbubur Rahman, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, was issued on Wednesday (26 November).
The notification stated that the order would take immediate effect.
Earlier, on Monday (24 November), a lottery was conducted at the Chief Adviser’s residence, Jamuna, to select the district SPs. Acting IGP and DMP Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sazzat Ali was present during the lottery. Senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and representatives from the Chief Adviser’s Office also attended the event.
Here is the list of the reshuffle of Superintendents of Police (SPs)
According to sources, while selecting SPs for each district, officers who had previously served as district SPs were excluded from the initial list. A fit list was then prepared after scrutinizing officers from the 25th, 27th, and 28th batches of the police cadre. From this list, 64 officers were selected through a manual lottery.
Sources from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Police Headquarters said that, with the national election approaching, an initiative had been taken to transfer and appoint field-level officers in the first half of February. Following the Chief Adviser’s directive, a list of eligible officers was submitted to the committee, which decided to finalize district postings through a lottery.
As a result, the joining of newly appointed SPs in six districts had recently been put on hold.
At a two-hour meeting held at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday afternoon, discussions were held on policies relating to police appointments and transfers during the election period. In continuation of that discussion, the SPs for all 64 districts were selected through a lottery.
