Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been sentenced to seven years in prison in each of three separate corruption cases related to RAJUK’s plot allocations in Dhaka’s Purbachal New Town project, totaling 21 years.

In one of the cases, her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, was sentenced to five years in prison and fined Tk 1 lakh, while in another case, her daughter, Saima Wazed Putul, received a five-year prison term. Former State Minister for Housing and Public Works, Sharif Ahmed, was sentenced to six years in prison in each of three cases, totaling 18 years.

The verdict was delivered on Thursday (27 November) at around 11:45 am by Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka’s Fifth Special Judge Court. Among the accused, only Khurshid Alam has been taken into custody.

A total of 47 individuals were accused across the three cases, though some were involved in multiple cases, bringing the total number of individual accused to 23.
