No driving license without 60-hour training: BRTA chairman
With a view to ensuring an international-standard license, the government has made it mandatory to complete a 60-hour training to obtain a driving license, said Bangladesh Road Transport Authority Chairman Abu Momtaz Saad Uddin Ahmed.
"A 60-hour training has been made obligatory to ensure an international-standard driving license. The training activities have begun across the country in the direction of the adviser," he said.
The BRTA chief said this at a programme at the BRTC Bus Depot and Training Centre in Sylhet on Sunday, November 30.
Stating that motorcycle accidents account for around 73 per cent of the country’s total road mishaps, he urged everyone to use standard and BRTA-approved helmets.
About the delay in distributing smart driving licenses, he said, "We had an agreement with an Indian company to print smart cards, and its term ended in July this year. We did not extend the term as they did not work as per the treaty."
"The entire process of smart cards will be completed through Bangladeshi companies in the future," he said, adding that a tender has already been invited and the work will commence soon after examinations.
