Saleh, Mainul reelected DRU president, gen secy

Abu Saleh Akon and Mainul Hasan Sohel have been reelected president and general secretary of the Dhaka Reporters Unity, DRU, respectively.

Saleh of Daily Naya Diganta bagged 509 votes, while his nearest rival, Mursalin Nomani of BSS, got 432, and Mainul of Daily Inqilab secured 752 votes, while his closest contender, Mainul Ahsan, got 489.

Besides, Mehdy Azad Masum became vice-president, Md Jafar Iqbal joint secretary, Niaz Mahmud Sohel finance secretary, MM Jashim organising secretary, Md Rashim (Rashim Molla) office secretary, Zannatul Ferous Panna women affairs secretary, Mijan Chowdhury publicity and publication secretary (uncontested), and Mahmud Sohel information technology and training secretary.

Omar Faruque Rubel was made sports secretary, Rafiq Mridha welfare secretary (uncontested), and Md Monwar Hossain cultural affairs secretary.

Al Amin Azad, Ali Azam, Mahfuj Sadi (Md Mahfujur Rahman), Md Akhter Hossain, and Mohammad Naimuddin were elected executive members, respectively.

Three candidates received the same number of votes for one out of seven executive posts. The executive committee will decide about them later.

Chairman of the Election Commission, MA Aziz, announced the results of the polls held on Saturday evening.
