70% of respondents back interim govt: IRI survey
A survey by the International Republican Institute (IRI) has found that 70 percent of Bangladeshis have confidence in the interim government led by Dr Muhammad Yunus.
The survey, conducted by IRI’s Center for Insights in Survey Research, revealed that 69 percent of respondents said Yunus is doing a good job, while 70 percent reported the same for the interim government.
Johanna Kao, Senior Director of IRI’s Asia-Pacific region, said, “It is clear Bangladeshis see progress under Dr. Yunus’s leadership. Their vote of confidence in him and the interim government reflects a widespread desire for stability, accountability, and reform.”
The survey also indicates high voter interest ahead of the upcoming national elections. About 66 percent of voters said they are very likely to vote, and 23 percent said they are somewhat likely to vote. Furthermore, 80 percent are optimistic that the elections will be free and fair.
Kao added, “The excitement of Bangladeshis highlights the importance of sustaining reform efforts and ensuring the elections are credible and peaceful.”
IRI regularly conducts nationwide public opinion research in Bangladesh to gain insights into citizens’ perspectives on policy, politics, and governance, as stated on its website.
