At least three people were killed and 15 others injured in a collision between a passenger bus and a truck on the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway at Shibchar in Madaripur on Tuesday. The accident occurred on the Arial Khan Bridge in the district.

The identities of the deceased and injured could not be confirmed immediately, according to police officials.

Police and local sources said a passenger bus belonging to Welcome Paribahan collided head-on with the rear of a truck traveling in the Bhanga-bound lane on the bridge, leaving one man dead and 17 others injured on the spot. Locals rescued the injured and took them to nearby hospitals, where two of them succumbed to their injuries.

Shibchar Highway Police Officer-in-Charge M Zahurul Islam said, “So far, three people have lost their lives in this accident. One body was recovered at the site, and two others passed away at the hospital. The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed. The bus had departed from Dhaka.”

Police are investigating the incident to determine the cause of the collision.
