EC to meet President Dec 10 before announcing polls schedule

The Election Commission (EC), headed by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin, will meet the President on December 10 before unveiling the schedule for the 13th parliamentary elections and the national referendum.

An Election Commissioner confirmed the development on Thursday, saying the commission will sit for an internal meeting on December 7 to finalise preparations regarding the schedule.

“We will meet the President on December 10. The schedule may be announced within a couple of days after that,” the commissioner said, noting that it is customary for the EC to finalise the election schedule following a meeting with the President.

When asked, Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Machud said the latest amendments to the Representation of the People Order (RPO) have already been approved and all preparations are in place.

He added that the formal schedule would be announced after the meeting with the President.
