Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, has said that bringing those responsible for the July killings back to the country is the government’s foremost priority.

Speaking at an inaugural session of an inter-college football tournament at Magura Government High School grounds on Friday morning, he said, “Bringing the July killers to justice is our oath. The fascist government massacred countless students and citizens in July last year. The International Crimes Tribunal has documented evidence of this genocide.”

Shafiqul added, “The International Crimes Tribunal has sentenced Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death. We seek their extradition. While they have the right to appeal, we will ensure the sentences are carried out according to national and international law. Everyone involved in these killings, whose hands are stained with blood, will be brought back to Bangladesh for trial. This is our duty to the martyrs, and no one will be spared.”

He noted that the government has roughly 70 days before the elections to work toward this goal, saying, “We will do our utmost within this timeframe.”

Commenting on political matters, Shafiqul said, “We have never mentioned a ‘Minus Four.’ Those who claim so are misrepresenting history. Khaleda Zia is a national leader, not just the leader of BNP. We wish her well and hope she returns to Bangladesh to participate in the elections.”

He emphasized that the government is committed to holding a free, fair, and impartial election by 15 February 2026, with participation from all political parties. The Election Commission has already completed consultations with all parties to ensure a peaceful and credible election.

Among others, Additional District Commissioner Sarbik Abdul Quader, Magura Municipal Administrator Imtiaz Hossain, District Sports Officer BM Sajin Israt, and sports organizer Barik Nonjam Barky were present on the occasion.
