No positive Indian response yet on Hasina’s extradition: Touhid
Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has said that India has not yet given a positive response regarding the extradition of Sheikh Hasina.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the Rangpur Circuit House on Friday (December 5) morning.
“We have requested that she (Sheikh Hasina) be sent back, as she is an accused and has been convicted by the highest court. But we have not received any positive response yet,” the adviser said. “Let’s see what happens. In matters like this, changes do not come suddenly within a day or a week. We will wait and see what reaction comes from India. There are indications that they are examining the matter. Let them examine it.”
Regarding Tarique Rahman, the Foreign Affairs Adviser said he had no information about when the BNP acting chairman might return. “However, his wife has already arrived. I have learnt that Begum Zia will not be flown to London today; there may be a delay of one or two days.”
On the issue of Bangladeshi fishermen detained by the Arakan Army, he said bilateral discussions with the group were not possible. “They are not a state. We can engage in discussions with state entities like the authorities of Myanmar, India, or Thailand, but not with them. However, since our interests are involved, steps are being taken to ensure such incidents decrease or do not occur in the future.”
The adviser arrived in Rangpur on Friday morning on a four-day visit. According to his schedule, he will visit key locations and installations in the region and will meet district administration officials on Saturday morning at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room.
On Sunday morning, he is scheduled to meet teachers and students of Magura High School in Nilphamari district.
