Freedom fighter, wife found murdered at Rangpur house
A man and his wife were found murdered in their house in Taraganj upazila, Rangpur, on Sunday morning (7 December). Police recovered their bloodied bodies in the Uttar Rahimapur area of Kursha Union in the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Jogesh Chandra Roy, 75, a freedom fighter and retired government primary school head teacher, and his wife, Subarna Roy, 60.
Locals said that around 7:30 am, when knocking on the door yielded no response, neighbours climbed a ladder to enter the house. They found the front gate key and opened the door. Inside, they discovered Jogesh’s bloodied body in the dining room and Subarna Roy’s in the kitchen. The police were informed afterward.
Eyewitness Deepak Chandra Roy said his family has been looking after Jogesh’s house for 40–50 years. He visits the house every morning for work. As no one came out until 7:00 am, he became suspicious. Upon entering and seeing the bodies, he immediately informed the police.
Locals added that Jogesh retired in 2017. The couple had two sons: the elder, Shovon Chandra Roy, lives in Joypurhat, and the younger, Rajesh Khanna Chandra Roy, works with the police in Dhaka. Only the husband and wife lived in the village house.
Taraganj Upazila freedom fighter commander Ali Hossain demanded that the perpetrators be quickly identified and brought to justice.
Taraganj Police Station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Abu Saiyum said both appeared to have suffered head injuries. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the circumstances behind the incident.
