EC briefs Yunus on election and referendum preparations
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has briefed the interim government’s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, on the Election Commission’s preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections and national referendum.
On Sunday evening, the CEC and all other election commissioners met the chief adviser at the state guest house Jamuna, where they updated the Chief Adviser on the progress of election arrangements. Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, confirmed the meeting.
Election Commissioners Abdur Rahmanel Masud, Tahmida Ahmed, Md Anwarul Islam Sarkar, Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah and EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed were present.
National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman and Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser M Siraj Uddin Mia also attended.
During the briefing, CEC Nasir Uddin said preparations for holding both the national election and the referendum on the same day in the first half of February are progressing “properly and smoothly.”
He affirmed the EC’s full readiness to conduct the twin polls.
He expressed gratitude to the Chief Adviser for the interim government’s continued support and thanked law enforcement agencies and the armed forces, through the Chief Adviser, for their cooperation throughout the preparatory phase.
Nasir Uddin added that citizens are already engaging actively in election-related activities, helping to create a conducive election environment.
Chief Adviser Yunus expressed satisfaction with the EC’s preparations and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring free, fair and impartial elections.
“You [the EC] are in the driver’s seat for this election awaited by the nation. We must reach the desired goal,” he said.
He emphasised that the interim government is determined to deliver the most credible election in the nation’s history, scheduled for the first half of February.
