Dhaka College, Ideal College students violate ‘peace deal’, clash again
Students of Dhaka College and Dhanmondi Ideal College engaged in a clash violating 'peace deal' on the road behind LabAid Hospital in the capital on Tuesday, December 9.
The incident began around 9:00 am on the road when 8 to 10 Dhaka College students allegedly chased Ideal College students with sticks.
Police later escorted students from both colleges back to their campuses. One Ideal College student was briefly taken to New Market police station but handed over to the college principal due to an ongoing exam.
A group of Ideal College students attacked a Dhaka College bus near the Science Lab area around 10:30 am, leaving several students injured on the spot.
Following the news, around 150 Dhaka College students gathered outside Ideal College with sticks and tampers, escalating the confrontation into a larger clash.
Law enforcement fired 2 sound grenades and 5 tear gas shells to restore order. One police officer was injured and taken to LabAid Hospital.
The situation is now under control, said a police official.
Dhaka College students have returned to their campus, while Ideal College students remain gathered on Central Road. Additional police personnel are deployed in the area to avert any kind of untoward situation.
Clashes frequently occur in the Science Lab area involving students from Dhaka College, Ideal College, and Dhaka City College, causing traffic congestion and disruption for the public.
On November 9, a verbal peace agreement mediated by New Market police had promised to prevent further conflicts.
