1 killed, 20 hurt in Habiganj clash over dominance

A man has been killed, and 20 others have been injured in a clash between two groups of people in Habiganj's Ajmiriganj over a Facebook post.

The deceased was identified as Russel Mia, 45, son of Chorot Ali, a resident of Kakailcho village in the upazila.

Quoting locals, Ajmiriganj Police Station office-in-charge Akbar Hossain said that Amin Sawdagar, a member of Ajmiriganj upazila unit Jubo Dal, and Hannan Mia, a union unit president of Sramik Dal, had been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the locality.

Recently, they locked into an altercation in Kakailcho village over a Facebook post, and in continuation of this, people from two villages clashed on Monday, December 8, on their behalf.

Both groups swooped on each other with locally made sharp weapons again on Tuesday, December 9, leaving one dead and 20 others injured on the spot.

Locals rushed the injured to the Ajmiriganj Upazila Health Complex and nearby hospitals.

Being informed, police and army personnel went to the scene and brought the situation under control, the OC said.

Legal action would be taken upon receiving a complaint in this connection, the OC added.
