Salehuddin leaves Secretariat after 6-hour confinement
Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed left the Bangladesh Secretariat around six hours after being confined by officials and employees at his office demanding ‘Secretariat allowance’.
He was escorted out of the Secretariat by the police personnel at about 8:30 pm on Wednesday, December 10.
Earlier, the employees confined him in his office on the fourth floor of the No. 11 building at the Secretariat from 2:30 pm, demanding a 20 per cent ‘Secretariat allowance’.
Badiul Kabir, president of a portion of the Secretariat Officials and Employees United Council, led the siege.
When a specialised unit of police went to the adviser’s office to take him out, a scuffle occurred between the cops and the protesters.
At that time, the protesters chanted various slogans against the law enforcers.
Sources in the Ministry of Finance said a notification on the Secretariat allowance will be issued on Thursday, December 11.
“We moved away from the adviser’s office after assurance that the Ministry of Finance will issue a notification on the Secretariat allowance at 3:00 pm on Thursday,” an employee said.
