Yunus assures EC of required support in election
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Thursday said that the interim government would extend all required support to ensure the polls and referendum are conducted in a festive, participatory and entirely fair environment.
He conveyed warm greetings and congratulations to the Election Commission (EC) following the announcement of the schedule for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections and the referendum on the July National Charter Implementation Order.
In a congratulatory message issued on Thursday, December 11, the Chief Adviser said the announcement marked “an important milestone in Bangladesh’s democratic journey”.
“With the declaration of this schedule, Bangladesh has stepped further along the new path it embarked upon after the historic mass uprising. This election and referendum will put the people’s opinions at the forefront and further strengthen the foundations of a new Bangladesh,” he stated.
The information was confirmed by the Chief Adviser’s Senior Assistant Press Secretary, Faiz Ahmed.
Professor Yunus expressed confidence that the Election Commission would carry out its constitutional duties “independently, impartially and with the utmost professionalism”.
Calling on political parties, candidates, the media, civil society and the public, the Chief Adviser urged everyone to treat the election and referendum as a “national unity initiative”.
“Respect for differing opinions, a peaceful atmosphere and democratic conduct will make the days ahead more stable,” he said.
“Bangladesh stands today on the threshold of a new future,” the Chief Adviser added. “Through your active participation and responsible behaviour, I firmly believe we will succeed in building a modern, just and prosperous state.”
