Two university students were killed after their motorcycle was rammed by a Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) garbage truck in the Konapara area under Demra Police Station in Dhaka.

The deceased were identified as 25-year-olds Iram Redwan and Apu Ahmed. Iram was a student at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), while Apu studied at United International University (UIU).

Following the accident on Thursday night, both were rescued in critical condition and taken to the Emergency Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared them dead early Friday.

Tausif, a friend who brought the injured students to the hospital, said Iram and Apu were returning home on a motorcycle after attending a wedding event. When they reached the Konapara area of Demra, a DNCC garbage truck rammed their motorcycle. After receiving information, locals rescued them in severely injured condition and took them to DMCH. Apu died first, followed shortly afterward by Iram.

Both students lived in the Chittagong Road area under Demra Police Station. The truck involved in the incident (Dhaka Metro–Sha–14-0574) has been seized.

Md Faruk, in-charge (inspector) of the DMCH Police Camp, confirmed the deaths and said the bodies have been kept in the DMCH morgue. The concerned police station has been informed.
