Registration Amendment Ordinance gets govt nod
The Advisory Council has approved the Registration Amendment Ordinance-2025, a key move aimed at modernising and streamlining the country’s property registration system.
The approval came during a Thursday, December 11, meeting at the Chief Adviser’s office in Tejgaon, Dhaka, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
In a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam highlighted the key provisions of the Registration Amendment Ordinance-2025.
The ordinance extends the timeframe for registering deeds executed abroad, providing more flexibility for overseas transactions. To prevent forgery and fraud, it introduces mandatory disclosure of essential details in immovable property sale deeds.
The ordinance also streamlines the collection of fees, duties, and charges related to depreciation or other deficits. It sets maximum timelines for processing appeals and applications submitted to district registrars, aiming to reduce public inconvenience.
Provisions for electronic registration have been incorporated, and authorities have been empowered to frame rules for the collection and management of fees, taxes, and service charges during deed registration.
The ordinance is expected to enhance transparency, simplify registration procedures, and improve efficiency for the public and authorities alike.
