Villagers in Tanore, Rajshahi, bid farewell to two-year-old Sajid, who tragically died after falling into an abandoned deep tube well.

The namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer) was held on Friday, December 12, around 10:30 am in a field next to his house in Koelhat Madhyapara, followed by burial at the nearby Nekkiri graveyard.

From early morning, the village was shrouded in grief. Announcements of Sajid’s death echoed from the mosque, halting daily activities as residents gathered to pay their respects. Shops remained closed, and work came to a standstill as the community united in mourning.

Residents of all ages, from the elderly to schoolchildren, wept as Sajid’s small body, wrapped in white cloth, was brought for the funeral. His mother repeatedly tried to approach, overcome with grief.

The funeral prayer was led by Kazi Maulana Mizanur Rahman. Local officials, political leaders, and people from all walks of life attended.

When Sajid’s tiny coffin was carried to the grave, silence fell over the crowd, broken only by the sobs of family members. Villagers described it as an unprecedented scene, with the entire community mourning a single child.

Sajid went missing on Wednesday, December 10, around 12:30 pm after falling into the abandoned deep tube well in Koelhat Purba Para, Pachandar Union. Fire Service personnel dug through 40 feet of soil and recovered the child after 32 hours. He was taken to Tanore Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
