Girl’s name appears in Chuadanga boys’ school lottery

The name of a girl, Zulekha Khatun, appeared in the third-grade admission lottery of Victoria Jubilee (VJ) Government High School, a boys-only institution, sparking concerns among parents about the digital lottery system.

The lottery was conducted digitally on December 11 at the International Mother Language Institute, with results published online and on the school’s notice board.

Zulekha Khatun was listed at serial number 71 for the third-grade day shift. Parents voiced worries about possible errors and irregularities, citing similar incidents in previous years in Chuadanga’s boys’ and girls’ schools.

Zulekha’s parents, Zinarul Islam and Sabina Yasmin, however, could not be reached over the phone despite repeated attempts for their comments in this regard.

School authorities said that that they would review the matter and provide clarification later.

Chuadanga Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Kamal Hossain, said that since the lottery process is centrally conducted in Dhaka, the relevant authorities need to coordinate to correct the error.

A similar situation occurred in 2022, when a girl’s name appeared in a boys’ school lottery, alongside multiple listings of some students’ names, raising ongoing concerns among parents about the reliability of the lottery system.
