A theft was reported at the village home of Inqilab Mancha convener Sharif Osman Hadi in Jhalakathi on Friday night while all members of his family were away in Dhaka following the shooting that left him critically injured.

The incident took place at the family house in the Khasmahal area of Nalchhiti municipality.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nalchhiti Police Station Ariful Alam confirmed the incident.

Neighbours said the house was empty as family members had rushed to Dhaka to be by Hadi’s side after he was shot in the capital earlier in the day.

Hadi’s cousin Sirajul Islam said the thieves likely entered the house by breaking a window. “As no one was at home, we cannot yet determine how much money or valuables were stolen,” he said.

OC Ariful Alam said police rushed to the spot after receiving the report and have begun an investigation. “We are talking to family members and examining the scene. Legal action is under process,” he said.

Sharif Osman Hadi was shot on Friday afternoon in the Box Culvert area of Bijoynagar in Dhaka, a day after the schedule for the 13th National Parliament elections was announced. According to police, miscreants on a motorcycle opened fire on him around 2:25pm.

He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition and later shifted to Evercare Hospital, where he remains under treatment.
