ISPR confirms identities of 6 slain Bangladeshi peacekeepers
The identities of the six slain Bangladeshi peacekeepers and the eight others injured in a drone attack on the Kadugli Logistics Base under the United Nations peacekeeping mission at the UN camp in Abyei, Sudan, have been revealed.
In a press release issued on Sunday (14 December) afternoon, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the identities of all the casualties.
According to the ISPR, a separatist armed group carried out the drone attack on the Kadugli Logistics Base in the Abyei area of Sudan on Saturday between approximately 3:40 pm and 3:50 pm local time. In the attack, six Bangladeshi peacekeepers on duty were martyred and eight others were injured.
The martyred peacekeepers are Corporal Md Masud Rana of Natore, soldier Md Mominul Islam of Kurigram, soldier Shamim Reza of Rajbari, soldier Shanto Mondol of Kurigram, Mess Waiter Mohammad Jahangir Alam of Kishoreganj, and laundry worker Md Sobuj Mia of Gaibandha.
The injured peacekeepers are Lieutenant Colonel Khondkar Khalekuzzaman, Sergeant Md Mostakim Hossain, Corporal Afroza Parvin Iti, Lance Corporal Mohibul Islam, soldier Md Mezbaul Kabir, soldier Mosa Umme Hani Akhtar, soldier Chumki Akhtar, and soldier Md Manajir Ahsan of Noakhali.
ISPR said all eight injured peacekeepers are receiving necessary medical treatment. Among them, Md Mezbaul Kabir was in critical condition and has already undergone successful surgery. He is currently under close observation. The other seven injured personnel have been airlifted by helicopter to advanced medical facilities and are reported to be out of danger.
The Bangladesh Army strongly condemned the brutal attack, stating that the supreme sacrifice of the martyred peacekeepers will remain a proud and glorious testament to Bangladesh’s commitment to global peace.
The Bangladesh Army also expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families of the martyrs and wished the injured a speedy recovery, the ISPR said.
